Beacon dynamic links are a efficient way to take advantage of Beacon tracking and bot suppression in digital PPC campaigns.

Beacon dynamic links come in two parts for Google Ads. The tracking template and the Final URL suffix.

These can be used in conjunction with Custom Parameters to populate your Beacon account with the Campaign Name, Channel and Link Description.

Here we explain how and where to place the links on your Google ads.

Hierarchy in Google Ads

Google ads are hierarchical, in practice meaning you can have setting at the Account level that filter all the way down through the campaign and ad group to the ad level.

And also that any settings at the ad level override the the settings at the ad group level and so on up.

Getting Started

The simplest way to get started using dynamic links in Google ads is to place them at the campaign level.

These setting are found in campaign settings under “Additional settings” and Campaign URL Options.

NB: Do NOT change your Final URL this should remain as the usual link to your websites landing page.

NB: The final URL suffix must be used for this data to avoid issues with parallel tracking.

You will have your own bespoke links for your ads, they can be found inside the Beacon app here.

Do not forget to test (using the blue Test link) your ads to ensure that the landing pages can be found.

Advanced Settings

Ad Account Level Settings

It is possible to place the Beacon tracking template and final URL suffix at the account level.

This will affect every campaign within the account, saving considerable time.

It is then up to you decide what level of granular detail you want have for your ads in the Beacon platform.

Here is an example of campaign using a custom parameter at the campaign level, deriving the tracking settings from the account level. Use this method to differentiate your Google campaigns within Beacon.

Advanced Ad level settings with Custom Parameters

When you first start to use custom parameters with Beacon you may want to just try one ad at first, this is how you would apply the tracking template and use custom parameters.

(the complete tracking template link is:{unescapedlpurl}&utm_campaign={_campaign}&utm_source={_channel}&utm_content={_content})

More information on how to set up and custom parameters can be found here.

Once you are happy with the way this works you can set these parameters at the campaign and the ad group level. You can also use Google Ads editor to make these edits more efficiently.

Please Note:
